How
do I go about commissioning a portrait?
Fill out the contact
form, specifying as much information as you can about
your preferences for medium, size, number of heads, whether
or not you will want your painting framed, etc., and I can
begin to guide you towards the combination of variables which
will give you the finished piece you desire at a price you
can afford. It’s a very good idea, if at all possible,
to make an appointment to visit my Gallery to see more examples
of the many ways to go.
Do you
paint from photos?
I specialize in compositing photos to render a painting with
all the elements you desire. Here is an example of a composited portrait. I can work from your photos,
or I can shoot creative photos myself if you choose to visit
my studio (add'l charge). If you prefer to sit for a portrait,
photos can help you choose your sitting position.
Do you
paint from sittings?
Certainly, if you are able to visit my studio in Savage,
MD. Sitting for your portrait is the ideal way to control the lighting for optimal results. Here is an example of a child who sat 100% of the time. The choice is yours whether to sit 100% of the time or
to combine sittings with photos to cut sitting time.
How long
are the sittings?
The recommended sitting time is a comfortable two hours long
with breaks. Complete sittings may take three to five two-hour
sessions per person, depending on the size and number of people
or background.

What could
I do while sitting for so long?
If you can sit in front of a tv, you can sit and watch yourself
being painted through a floor mirror. You don't have to sit
perfectly still. We can carry on a conversation. It’s
as pleasant as tea time and will be a unique experience to
be long remembered.
What mediums
do you use?
Oils are my preference, but I also work in pastels, watercolor,
acrylics, pencils and charcoals. I feel comfortable with any
medium you choose.
How much
does a painting cost?
Because of the many choices of medium, number of subjects,
materials, etc., the price range is very broad. However, with
an appointment, you can visit the artist’s gallery to
see examples and also to discuss what you have in mind so
that a fee can be accurately quoted.
Do you
accept layaway?
Yes. Usually 1/3 down is required with the balance made in
payments. The final payment is made at pick-up time. A certificate
will be available.
How do
I know I'll like the painting?
My policy is to call you when the painting has progressed
sufficiently. This preview time is your time to decide if
the painting pleases you. If you cannot view the painting
in person, I can email photos or send photos of it to you
for your approval. I pride myself on complete satisfaction.
